YESTERDAY'S MEETIN (.1. The Wellington Mucation Board met yesterday. Tue lion. J. U. W. Aitken presided, and there wero present also .Messrs: T. Aloss, A. W." Hogg, j.Kebbell, W. 11. Field, M.P., W. Allan, C. ill. l.uke, H. h'leeman, and Sir Walter Buchanan. The statement of accounts showed tlio current account to le J;l'M7 on. the dibit side. • The board approved the schema drawn up by the Headmasters' • Association lor collecting money lor the Belgian children on July IU. It was resolved to establish a school at Solway, about a mile south of Ue railway station, provided the - site oli'ered can bo secured at the price quoted veiLallv.
a Brooklyn deputation asked for the construction of a retaining wail lo improve tliu playground at tho Brooklyn School, which ground tliey said v.as at "present iu a dangerous condition. The ichairnian'assured the deputation 'tint tho board had not. overlooked tho matter, uud that it would be attended lo as soon as the board was iu a position to attend to it.
'The following resignations wero accepted:—Mr. M. U'Uonnell, probationer, Eketahuna; Miss D. V. MarcliLanks, assistant, Kilbirnie; Mr. ,T. T. Linehan, assistant, Brooklyn; Hiss Milne, probationer, Koseneath.
The following works were authorised:— Kuf.t iJ.U.S., renewal two grates and repairs to bicycle shed in yard; i.'orthland, replacing icncing; Normal, half-cost fence; Taueru, repairs to residence, etc.; lteikiorangi. fencing; Mataraiva residence,, new stove, papering two rooms; ?<;■■ iiricnville residence, fencing, papering, and repairs; Tane, grant to committee; 'Jaiti, shed and fencing; Longbusli, improvemonts to residence; Ktiawhala, fencing, wire, and gale; llongokokako rciidence, fanlight, sheathing of. wall, fence; Ballance, repairs to iireplaces; L'alefield, dividiug fence, gates, new range; Cross Creek, interior painting; Hashvell, repairs; Waingawa, interior painting; Hataitai, grading; I'orirua residence, repairs and improvements; l'irinoa, metalling, etc.; Worser Bay, sido school, entiiuildiugs, etc. (and that the oiler ;>f building at. Miramar lie declined); l'oroporo, ejtra window; Featherston, residence painting; Aifredton, metalling, etc. The'following recommendations of tho Works and Financo Committeo were adopted:— Pirinoa residence—Offer of residents to • contribute .£loo' received, tenders to he again invited lor the work in the spring. Masterton laundry room—That the elerk of works visit Masterton and report to the board after consultation with the committee aud head-teacher. Ngaio—That grant of A* 51) be authorised for asphalting. Letter .re Vogeltown received—7?eply to Lo sent that the board is at aresent taking no action in the direction indicated. fterhanijore—Frosting of window sashes; that the clerk of works visit aud report. Featherston and Levin—That accounts for disinfection be approved. .Tohnsonviile, septic- tank--That tho matter be deferred indefinitely, ,and that in the meantime tho Health Department be consulted. .
. Johnsonville, asphalting—That subsidy of .£4O be approved. Tablelands—That the letting o? the residence be - approved subject to insurance by the teacher. Arbor-Day—(a) That the offer f Sir. Thomas, Pabiatua, for supply af trees, etc., be accepted with thanks, and that freight and expenses be' paid. (1>) IT. Cooper, That' the presentation of 20 oak trees be. accepted with thanks.
