COMMANDEERED WOOL

There is a strike of Bradford woolcombers, but it is expected to be of short duration. Tlio commandeering of the English new clip is the paramount topic on the wool market. Opinion is divided as to tlio effect on colonial crossbreds if the Government only pays 40 per cent, above pre-war prices. BIG SALES TO ITALY. RISK OF WOOL REACHING GERMANY. London, June 26. The Right Hon. Eugene Wason, in the Houso of Commons, drew the attention of Hie Government to Italy's large wool purchases at the Sydney sales, and asked whether the Government would make special representations to Italy to see that none of the wool reached Germany or Austria. Lord Robert Cecil (Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs) said that the importance of preventing wool reaching the enemy had been frequently brought nnder the notico of the Italian Government, which had taken strict measures to prevent smuggling. [Note.—ltaly is not at war with Germany.]
