MILK SHORTHORN BREEDERS
(By Telegraph—Special Correspondent;) '• Palmerston North, Juno &j. At a general meeting.of the .New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association, Mr. J. C. Wright, president (Matapu), presiding, 31 members represented, various parts of tho North Island. Tlie president spoke'of the great progress made by the association .sinco its formation three years ago. They had now close on 100 active menibera. . They had issued volume 1 of tho herd book, and the entries for volume 2 were already over 500 cows and 80 bulls.. A largo number of animals had been placed under semiofficial test, and from the records to baud the milkingi Shorthorns were proving themselves under ..ordinary conditions equal to other l>recds. He was' pleased to . state ■ a"nunib*er" of A. and P. associations had ■ agreed to place classes for milking Shorthorns in their schedules for spring shows, .and they had already been included, by Manawatu, Dannevirke, Wanganui, Taranaki, Waikato. and other associations. Already excellent prices were being obtained for good milking Shorthorns, and .tho demand was very; keen.
On the motion of Mr. Hodges, .it"was. resolved that it bt- a recommendation to the council to draw up a scale of points for judging milking Shorthorn, classes at agricultural shows; also, that the association send in the namas of competent judges for these classes. ■ ;
