THE CHEESE OUTPUT

MAKERS AND THE GOVERNMENT. By Telegraph—(Special Correspondent.) Halmerston North, June 23. A couple of weeks ago Tarauaki farmers held a meeting at Hawera and Elthain, and decided to offer their outputs of cheese to the' Government for War Office requirements at 9Jd., the approximate average price ruling on the Home market during the past season. This price was considered by the Govern- ' meat to be too high, and'in consequenco it was decided by those in authority that suppliers should consider the matter at Palmerston North., This meeting took place, and it is understood that as a result the factory representatives decided to offer their whole output to the Government at-B}d., or half the output at 8d„ with n proviso that the other half is to be consigned Homo through the usual channel, and to have equal facilities • of shipment with the Government's half. Another important-proviso is that if tho Home Government requires more than 50 per cent, it is to have first call on tho produce at Home, but at market prices. These proposals will be 'formally put before the dairy companies at meetings to be called shortly at different places.
