N.Z. SHEEP-BREEDERS' ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING. ; v (By Telegraph—Special; Correspondent.) Palmerston N„ June 23. Tho annual meeting of the land ■ Shoep-breeders' Association (North ' Tslnmti was held this morning. Mr. b. R. Lancaster ' presided. The president ■" roported steady progress during the past year, both financially and ; as regards '; ■ membership. During the year four new English Leicester, one Border 'Leicester / (reinstated), 25 Southdown, and one Shorpshire flock, had been registered with a corresponding number of new members. - • Six ; flocks were dispersed, so . that the ■ increase of : new , flocks, especially of 77 Southdown, is considerable. . There was 7 gome delay in- issuing Volume XV of the 1 Flock' Book for • tho reason that several ." Members contended that-it should in- - elude rains' 6old' at the autumn -Bam Pair, and thus give a chance of having the animals, used in the ourrent breed- .' ing season registered. before the returns 7 ■ are: sent in ; at/December *31; The per- ". sident thought there was a good deal of .' reason .in this. Further delay was occa-. Bioned in the difficulty of carrying out • the rule that the name, of the sire , of every ram entered singly, must be given. . •' The position in regard to this rule was 7 ltiost unsatisfactory, in; that a number of members have-obtained rams from the ; South Island where, no such rule is .'in : existence. i'Tliere could bo no doubt, said - Mr. Lancaster,' that the' riile. is a,:de--7 isirable one,' and efforts should be made to induce tho South Island Association 'to adopt it. -The position,in regard to ' tee. registration' of transfers of rams should also bo given consideration, as it ... is not satisfactory;. The custom in the - past has "been . that every ram, transferred had to be re-entered and given a further, -number, '.with 1 the result that
many rams have more than one-number. * The matter should have early considera-. tion. The balance-sheet showed reT ; . ceipts .£'-13 ss. ,7d., and expenditure. -£278 ,1-MOs. 9d.; whilst assets are. valued at JS3IS ■19s. lOd., and liabilities are nil.
