HIGH COMMISSIONER'S LETTER
TO THE MAYOR, A few weeks ago the Mayor (Mr. J. P Luke) wrote, on behalf of\the City Council and, citizens, congratulating' Sir Thomas Mackenzie on the honour that had recently been conferred upon him by the King. Yesterday Mr. Luke received the following reply;Dear Mr. Luke,-I desire to thank you and the citizens of Wellington, New Zealand, most sincerely for the kind congratulations conveyed in your letter upon the honour that the King has conferred upon me. It is most gratifying to learn that the manner in which I have been engaged here meets with the approval of the councillors of the Empire City of New Zealand; such approval is ooth stimulating and encouraging. The war has added much to responsibilities here, but thanks to the .co-operation of a loyal staff, and, in connection with attention to the needs of our soldiers, the assistance of many Now Zealanders, I have been enabled to carry out tho work in a manner that I believe has given satisfaction. Nothing is too much to do for the men who are fighting for us, and upon many occasions I have thanked the people of the Old Land for their unfailing kindness and consideration to thoso of our troops who have visited these shores. Lady Mackenzie unites with mo in tendering to you, and to your council, sincorest thanks for tho resolution so generously carried. With kind regards, —Believe me, yours sincerely, Thos. Mackenzie."
