FOR SAILORS' FAMILIES MONEY ROLLING IN There appears to be every prospect of a very substantial sum being raised in tho Wellington district by the Navy League for tho relief of the widows and children of the naval men lost in tho war. On Wednesday the Mayor (Mr. J. I'. Luke) received. the following letter from Palmerston North:— "Dear Sir,—l have sent to-day 411060 to the Bank of Australasia, Wellington, to tho credit of the Navy League. This represents a collection taljen up ut All Saints' Church, Palmerston North, at a memorial, servico held on Sunday last in memory, of the late Lord Kitchener. The. yiCiir and wardens of All- Saints' ask you to cable this' amount to tin.credit of your emergonoy committee in London for distribution amongst the widows and children of the sailors who lost their lives in our recent great sea victory, also including those of H.M.o. ' Some people may - be under the impression that the Mayor's Euud and the Navy League Fund are separate funds. That is not the caso. This year. Mr. Luke -happens to be president of tho Navy League, and lie considered it the'special duty of that body to undertake the present effort. All moneys received will do credited to the Navy League Fund, and will-be banked daily, and can only be oporated upon by the president and treasurer (Mr. Robert Darroch) acting jointly. 1

Attention is drawn to the programme of an exceptionally good concert to be given at til© Town Hall this evening, under the aegis of. the Countess, of Glasgow, who, being the; wife of a. distinguished naval officer, feels it. her duty bjnake an effort.on behalfof those ivjuo'ws and children of naval men who may ba in want owing to.tlio bitter loss tliey have so recently .sustained. At the; Dufault recital last evening the Countess of Glasgow, thanks to ,tho courtesy of tho management", came forward on the stage and announced the fact that she was. giving a concert in aid of tho widows and orphans of those who had lost their lives doing what they had wished to do all their lives—to fight ana die, for their country. Those mothers and wives had given their all, and now that • they . were suffering and hearted it was not iieet that they'should "want as well. The concert, tho Countess of Glasgow announced, would be 'a very .beautmn one,: and last, but not least, Mr. Paul Dufault was coming to sing for them. Tho; announcement was received with great applause, and the appeal to all present us well as their friends to attend tho concert should meet with a ready response.
