NATIONAL RESERVE

A combined parade of the Lyall Bayanil Miramar (including Seatoim section) Units took place on Tuesday evening. 1 Captain Hackworfh was in command, assisted -,by Lieutenant Norton-Taylor, of Miramur. I'latoon and squad drill was practised, and company- movements demonstrated, a very satisfactory evening's ■ work beinj accomplished. EXECUTIVE MEETING. The Executive of the Reserve, presided over by ColonePPorter, C.8., met last evening for the dispatch of ordinary business.' As the election of representatives ■ to the new executive had not been completed, the date lor tending in the returns was fixed fortune 7. Reports were presented by the Finance and Election Committees. A return of tlie attendance of individual members of the executive during : the past year was submitted, showing that five members attended more than 25 times out of 30. General matters affecting the welfare of the Reserve were discussed, and dealt with. Attention was drawn to the point that officers of the Reserve who desire to sit for examination at the next Territorial examinations should send in their names to.Headquarters at an early date. At the conclusion of the executive meet- . jng, a meeting of officers of Group 5 was held. Colonel Porter* stated th.lt the object of the meeting ivns to introduce officers to the now Commandant of the District, Lieut.-Oolonel Brandon, and ho congratulated the group on having secured the services of so capable and experienced an officer. The new commandant addressed the officers, outlining a scheme on which he thought the Reserve could proceed to very substantial and useful work. He hoped that officers would forward any further suggestions whicli they might consider of advantage, so they might be submitted to the Dominion Council, which was timed to meet on Juae 11.
