ACCIDENTS , & FATALITIES
AN INQDEST. Mr. W. G. Rkkiell, S.M., concluded, on Saturday mbming, the inquest concerning the death of Henry James Chapman, who fell off a train near Petone when engaged in checking tickets, on the evening of April 22. DC-, ceased; it will bo remembered, had his foot amputated in the AVellington Hospital, and died from shock following a sudden attack of pneumonia and pleur- 1 isy. The evidence at the inquest did. not disclose the cause of the deceased's fall from the train, but, from a remark ho passed, it seemed likely that hi} lost his balance when the train was negotiating a bend, and fell through the open gate of a carriago platform. A verdict of accidental death was returned, the Coroner remarkins: that no blame, was attachable to anyone.
