MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL
THE HUTT ROAD CONTRIBUTIONS. Messrs. J. EC. Monaghan (chairman), J. H. .Heggerty, A. J. Taylor, J. A. Pyle, S. Bryant, and Geo. Monk were present at the monthly meeting of the Makara County Council yesterday morning. , . The ohief item of business was the consideration of the payment of the council's aharo of tho cost of tho construction of tho Hutt Road under the terms of the schedule to the Hutt Road Act of 1915. A letter was read from tho Advances Department requesting to know the council's intentions as to whether it was prepared to pay tho amount stipulated (£7200) in cash or in the form of debentures. As it appeared to the members of the council that there was no prospect of avoiding the payment of this sum, it was decided to do so by way of debentures to bo issued at 4 per cent., with 1 pel cent, sinking fund. ' This matter iB to be attended to forthwith. The council also decided to strike a rato of l-32d. on the rateable value of property within the No.. 3 special rating area, to cover tho interest on tlia loan of £1600 raised to re-erect and repair bridges destroyed in the floods of November last. _ _ In respeot to tho reoruiting campaign, those members of the council having charge of rolls • submitted a list of names witliin their respective ridings of men eligible for military, service. These names are being forwarded_ on to tho Recruiting. Board for their information, but in tne meantime a personal canvass is being made of those posted' as eligible on the National Register.
