WAR RELIEF

The War Relief Association of Wellington acknowledges the following contributions:—Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., £250; Mr. J. M. H. Tripp, £12 155.; Mr. Clement Watson, £1. Tho Belief Committee held* three meetings this month, and dealt with 113 cases. Women with families are experiencing difficulty in making ends meet, with tho high price-of necessities, and the association is finding great difficulty in obtaining cottages for families inadequately accommodated at prosent. One case in particular was that of a woman with two children, occupying a singlo room, the only mode of cooking being that provided' by a gas ring. Tho house, which, by.the way, contains only six rooms, was at times occupied by as many as sixteen people. Information regarding cottages, rooms, or flats will be at once handed to the numerous applicants in' search of better quarters. Mrs. J. B. MacEwan, the honorary visitor of the association, has been handing to deserving applicants articles of furniture and, clothing. Arrangements will be made to collect _ similar articles, in the way of odd pieces of furniture, mattresses, rugs, mats, etc., of no further use to the owners. Communications addressed to the' office, 326 Lambton Quay, or telephone 2226, will receive prompt attention.
