LODGE MEETINGS

The Star of Wellington Lodge, No. 12, 1.0. G.T., met last Thursday in St. Peter's Mission Hall, the C.T. presiding over a large number of visitors and members. A. most enjoyable evening was spent. A large number of members of the Hope of Petone Lodge and also of the Pioneer Lodge were present. .The Lodgo also received a visit from Bro. Jaokson, of Westport,' and Sister and Bro. Earsman, sen., prominent members of the Southern Cross Lodge, No. '1, 1.0. G.T., of Invercargill, the first Good Templar Lodge instituted in Now Zealand. In responding to a hearty welcome given by the Lodge, Bro. .Earsman expressed his sincerest pleasure - at being present among so many who worked for the same-splendid causo. In speaking for the "good of the Order," Bro. Earsman reported that the Southern Gross Lodge was in a very favourable condition, "and that it liad owed its success to the fact that it always had an active, friendly, cheerful, and sociable membership. Speaking on the question of Prohibition, Bro; Earsman said t'ilat many people had asked the question: "Does Prohibition really mean prohibition to a district?" He strongly maintained that it did. Invercargill had been a dry district for nine years now, and Bro. Earsman, reported that in spite of the fact that just outside the district, there were large breweries, there was very little drunkenness in the down, and that the town was cleaner and far better off through it. Officers of the visiting members were placed ,in the various offices for the evening, Bro. Petheriek, of the Pioneer, presiding as Chief Templar. Refresh- ' nients were handed round by the Siai members, and the following contributed items for the crening's programme Sister Campiovi (Pioneer), pianoforte solo; Sister Rose (Petone), song; Bro, Trevethic (Pioneer), humorous reading; Bro. Howitt (Star), song; Bro. Ears-, man (Southern Cross)"", song; Bro. Ingram (Star), recitation; and Bro. Rose (Petone), a monologue. .■ % The Rising Star Juvenile Temple, No. 8, 1.0. G.T., mot last Thursday, Sister Mrs. A. E. Roberts, superintendent, presiding. There was a good attendance, and a very pleasant evening Two new boys were initiated into the Order. Competitions in singing and reciting were held. Those who entered were: Sisters N. Petheriek, ID. Adams, R.' Bennett, E. Burton, P. Adams, L. Hitchen, and Brothers Davies, Haley, F. Petheriek, J, Hitchen, T. Howitt, and C. Bennett. The competitions resulted:—Singing, Sister . R. Bennett; reciting, Sister P. Adams, j Singing, Bro. Davies; reciting, Bro. J. ; Hitchen. The competitions proved to, ! be very keen.
