BURLESQUE FOOTBALL
LADIES V, SKIRTED SOLDIERS
The unofficial opening of the football soa6on will take place, on the Athletic Park on Saturday week (April 1). For that day the New Zealand Natives' Association have arranged a burlesque football match, to be'played between
a team of young ladies under the captaincy of Mrs. M'Vicar, and a team of soldiers dressed in hobble skirts.' Colonel Potter, Camp Commandant, /has given his consent to 'the men taking part in tho match, and has. notified the association's seorbtary (Mr. C. M'liityre) that the Camp Band will be. in attondanco at the park. Tho soldiers' team, which will include the "Lonesome Pine" (Corporal Newman), who is 6ft. 7jin. in height, is being selected by Captain Bell and Sergt.-Major Cummings. The park has been kindly lent to tho association by the Wellington Rugby Union.
The gala is in aid of tlie. funds of the association's ladies' Guild, who do good work among tho sick and wounded soldiers, and the Association Band's uniform fund.
