PETONE COURT

A sitting of the Petono Magistrate's Court was held yesterday, Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presiding. _ A youth fifteen years pf age was convicted. and discharged for ill-treating a cat, tlio Magistrate stating that, had tho boy's father not punished him already, he would have bad him thrashed.

For refusing to quit licensed premises wlieu called upon, Peter Blakeborough was convicted and fined 205., with 7s. costs, in default three days' imprisonment.'

A prohibition order was granted against Ellen Dalton, on the information of the police. For cruelly treating a horse, Joseph Fleet, _ who ivas represented by Mr. R. W. Webb, was finea £3, with 30s. costs. On the application, of Ellen James, a separation was granted her against W. James, on the grounds of cruelty, custody of the children being also granted to tlio applicant. Defendant was ordereel to pay the sum of £ 1 for their maintenance.

For selling fruit unfit for human foodQuong Sang Wall was fined £1, with £2 lis. costs.

Considerable evidence was hoard in the assault cases,, arising as a sequel to a neighbour's quarrel, W. H. Wakedin and ID. Walcelin v. G. Stent, and G. Stent v. W. H. and E. Wakelin. In the latter instance the information was dismissed, whilst in the former Stent was fined £3 for assaulting W. H. Wakelin, £1 for assaulting E. Wakelin, and. was ordered to pay witnesses' expenses, amounting to 20s. and £1 Is., solicitor's feo, in default 14 days' imprisonment. In the following civil eases judgment hy default was given;—Bodon and Co. v. W. Crutohley, 155., and ss. costs; same v. G. J. Broughton, £2 lis. lid., and 10s. costs; same v David M'Kay, £19 19s.,_ and 20s. costs; same V. Arthur Lines,'£ll 6s. 9d., and. los. costs; same v. James F. M'Crae, £2 los. lid;, and 10s. costs.-•
