NOTES AND COMMENTS
, . IBx ITSienco*.! The Autumn Meeting of the Dannevirke Racing Club will bo held on the club's property at Tamaki to-day. Good fields are carded in most of the events, but as a result of recent racing giving some of the competitors very littlo chance of success there is likely to be a good weeding out in several of the events. Proceedings will commence with the Maiden Plate, five furlongs, weight Bst. Amongst tho runners are Step, who has often shown pace in open company, Helsingfovs, and Maisie Bell. In the President's Handicap, six furlongs. Avon Park has earned a 71b. penalty, which will make her weight 9st. 61b. Even with this impost she is likely to bo better preferred on tho maohine than any of the other runners, though if Zetes, Bst. 31b., does not bleed he looks like having tho best of tho mare ou , Hawera form. Black Ada, 6st: 131b., and Jean Laddo, fist. 91b., may be the btst of the light-weights. There is a big field in the Tahoraiti Hack Welter, but they are not a good lot. Reports from Gisbome credit Tipatipa, 7st. 121b., with being a smart galloper, and as he is in receipt of 291b. from tho top weight, he looks like having the situation well in hand, providing he is as good as his admirers claim for him. Indigo, Bst. 111b., is top weight in the Cup. ' The chestnut has been working well at Hastings, but liis form at Tren-' tham. wh«rt< Iw stripped really well, was nothing to enthuse over. In the middle of the field are Lndogeur, 7st. 10lb., and Orleans, 7st. 51b. The form of tho former at Woodville was not his best, and ho can be depended upon to do a lot better to-day. At Trentham he pulled very hard when meeting the best company, and probably he will be found in front, with Taringamutu, over the first part to-day. A fast-run race will suit Orleans, who is only carrying a pound more than he scored with at Woodville. Of the two-year-olds, Carlatour is the only winner. The Lowry stable has Beltane and Grand Duch.v engaged, both of whom are making their first appearance under silk. Sunny Climo is the Highden filly, from Perolina, and though she is fairly smart Carlatour will likely begin too fast for her and the others. Form points to the' Waikauae-bred Bairnsdale fn the Electric Hack, for atWoodville he beat Maryland and Mahzoltov, both of whom scored on the second day, while Mahzoltov' emphasised the form by" defeating a good field at Wangnnui on Thursday. Orleans and Avon Park will probably bo missing when the field lines ■up for the .Tamaki Welter. Tavistock and Marsinah are recent winners, but Combustion goes this distance well and so does Master Moutoa. Goldenlyte, a stable companion ofTipotipa, is reported to be coming back to form, and he luay be one of the wellbacked division in the Makirikiri Hack Handicap, seven furlongs.' l'ore has been racing well lately, and should be better for her exertions at Woodville. The' Y.R.C. Derby and Melbourne Cup victor Patrobas figures amongst the acceptors for the Australian Cup, and it goes without saying that much interest is centred in the engagement of the three-year-old son of Wallace in the long-dis-tance handicap. With Bst. 71b. opposite his name, Patrobas has been awarded an impost 71b. over weight-for-age, so that he will require to be all the colt he is held to be to silence the opposition. It may bo remarked that 110 colt has yet succeeded in winning the treble—V.R.C. Derby, Melbourne Cup, and Australian Cup—so that Patrobas will have a chance of taking rank as a record breaker should he lino up at the post at Flemiugton on Tuesday next. Tree Lucerne was cast in his box on the eve of the Wanganui Meeting, and though he was started in th 6 Flying Handicap on the opening day, was very- sore afterwards, and ivias allowed to drop out of his engagements on the second day. The Kiunara, which i 6 due to arrive in Auckland shortly, has on board four young thoroughls-ed mates consigned to Mr, lan Duncan, of the Waikanae. stud. They are Desrina, by Desmond from Marina; Lady Jean, bv lan from Betty, fiold; Telesia, by Sir Archibald from Tops; and a filly by. Grey Leg Etru. FIXTURES.
