FALSE' REPRESENTATION. > Mr. D. G. A. CoopeY, ■S.M., presided at Saturday's sitting of the . Magistrate's Court. Among the cases for hearing ■ was one in which an olderly man, named Henry John Goulden, was charged with falsely representing himself as an agent of Lloyd's Publishing Company, Ltd., and so obtaining the sum of 7s. 6d. from A. T. Bate. He pleaded guilty. Mr. T. Neave, who appeared for Lloyd's Publishing Company, stated that there were several similar cases, but proceedings had only been commenced in one instance. Defendant had been an old servant of the company, and it was not desired to prosecute him vindictively. Drink had apparently led to his lapse. The Magistrate convicted accused and ordered him to como up for sentence when called upon. As a condition of his release, it was' directed that he be prohibited, and that he hand over _to the company all papers found in bis possession. MAINTENANCE. Robert M'Nab was sentenced to three months' imprisonment for disobedience of an order of the Court,requiring him to contribute to the maintenance of his mother. The warrant will not be enforced if M'Nab pays £20 to tho police constable at Carterton to-c!ay, in part reduction of the arrears, and if he afterwards keeps aip weekly payments of 15s. THEFT. For theft of a pair of boots, valued at 10s., Robert Law was fined 20,5., in'default to, undergo seven days' imprisonment. The hoots'had been taken while Law was delivering coal from the State Coal 'Depot. . OTHER CASKS. A foreigner, Eimar Evikle, pleaded guilty to charges of drunkenness and indecency. He was fined £2, the alternative being'seven days' imprisonment. \Ycer Singh and James M'Grath were fined 10s. each for drunkenness. 1 JUDGMENT SUMMONS. A. D. Walton, defendant in a judgment summons case, was ordered by Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., to pay tho sum of £21 9s. lOd. to J. Beveridge, on or before February 29, in default to undergo 14 days' imprisonment.
