WANGANUI RACES CONCLUDING EVENTS. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Wanganui, February 26. The Waugamii Jockey Chili's Autumn Meeting concluded ito-iiay, in glorious weather. The totalisator handled J;32,U74, as against •A'iO.iitll for the same clay last year. The total lor tlio meeting was •WiU.lifil, as against .1:57,1ab last year. Multiplication was a good favourite in the opening event, but alter jumping out well nis ruler lost Ills irons, ana had to pull up his mount. I'layuE look charge at the six furlongs, followed by Thooiomi, and the pair led the others, who were bunched. Hound the bend the field closed up, and liio.uk I'ejaval on the rails became prominent, but his elf'rt was shortlived, Playoff had shaken iu-. Xliooknii at the distance, but he then Had to be ridden out to hold off Ladil'y, who finished well. Leonta and Princess Moutoa, finished together, two lengths away. The stipendiary questioned the rider and trainer of Multiplication about the gear which gave way. iinshman was withdrawn from the Matarawa Hack race, leaving half a dozen runners. It was a good stall, Interlude showing the way from Mandoline. Across the bottom and Gang Am' moved up, but Interlude led into tho straight. She failed to withstand a challenge from Mandoline, who won well from Gang Awa', with 'Analogue next. Tho last named finished up well, and would do better over a distance. Tho win of Mandoline was expected by the stable, as she had a bad passage on the opening day. The Greenwood bracket was the favourite for the Jackson Stakes, which w«s a race full of excitement. Nothing- could have stripped better than Bimeter and Hyttus. Nones looked a bit dull in. tho coat, and Tete-a-Tete was on the jolly side. At the barrier Bimeter, who was un the outside, was quickest to begin, and.he was soon over on the roils. AVnon t(he half-mile was passed Tete-a-Tete, .Nones, and The .Tofr were most prominent of tho others, but the filly in tho middle got squeezed back a furlong further on. At this stage Tetc-a-Tete had collared Bimeter, and led, into the straight. Then Nones, who was coming again, got checked, and Plying Start commenced a great run on the outside. The Hawke 3 Bay maie won easily by two lengths, wi.h Plying Start a neck behind Bimoter, and Nones alongside the Chokcbore colt. Un the day the bes-t mare certainly won, but Norios was unlucky. The Toif failed to ffo on after being well placed at the half journey. Hyttus got badly away, but showed phenomenal pace in tne middle stages. J. O'Shea,. rider of tho winner, lost his irons during the Tace. This made fully a dozen cases of the sajne thing at the meeting, lete-a-leto ran one of her best races to date, ana may get a longer course. It looks as it tho correct idea with the Woyal stock is to have them short of a gauop 01 The°iune acoeptors started in the Fordell Hurdles, which went to an ont6l iii St. Gale, who led the whole TO '™ iust lasted long enough-to beat liingov Ca head! witf GlcnoW th* same OKtance away. At tho start St Gate and Marton, jumped awnvln iron*. *vtfc tno favourite in the middle of the field. Bj the time the stand -was reached tfit latter had gono back to last, and P his backers out of suspense by Hu m!, further awav. At tho sis furlongs Gi«norchy joinotf St. Gate, and Master Strowan moved up. as did Flingou llio lawi* did not jump the last two fences well, and this cost, him the race. bt. Uato took the last fence with Gleno: side lriin, and a fine finish i<*u Ud as utwvo. Vascular was fourth, and Uilector fifth. Tho race was »t *i clipping Wie wholo * a y. ~ winner jumped well throughout, but tjj fact that a thirteen-year-old gelding i ruiiuer-up docs not speak well for © class in the race. In flto Hack Welter Mahzoltov was n four pounds better favourite than \ eto, but the latter's chance was extinguished by losing several lengths s.t the barrier. At the start the favourite and. Miss Kelly led from Bonny Dream and Bivouac, witli Calais handy. On the bend the lastnamed moved up, and dut the leader s measure entering the straight. He appeared to V>e winning easily, but penniless came up, and got within a neck of the Patronus gelding. Miss Kelly was right up, and Bonny Dream was fourth. Veto ran a good race, but was kept on the cut-side by tho field, and covered a lot moro ground than the'others. 'I lie lastnamed has become rather dirty at the barrier, and her trainer intends giving her a course, of schooling. Calais was ridden by S. Reid, who retains his won-del-fill winning average. The Wanganui Stakes was an even betting l-aoe, with "the exception of Emperador, who waa a.* good lavourite. He was unlucky at the barrier, and was giving tho field a big start after going half a mile. Housewife and Monlu were acting as pilots passing the stand, but at tho top of tho course the field bunched. Colonel Soult and Emperador met with interference down the back, where wife compounded, and Master Lupin joined Moulu in the load. Welcome Nugget also put in a run entering tho straight, but Master Lupin was full of running, and won nicely by two lengths. Tangihou, who was stopped on the turn, finished up well, and got second place.. El Gnllo was third, and then came Emperador, Colonel Soult, Housewife, and Moulu in that otder. Sir Alba lost his rider soon- after the start. After the race the Judicial Committee inquired into the fall of Sir Alba. C. Cnrmont; rider of Moulu, was given a month's suspension for crossing, out the verdict is likely to be appealed against. Several of the riders in the Vace who were not called to give evidence, 3ay is tli-e victim of misfortune, and that Sir Alba crime down in false going when there was nothing near him. Emperador's form was freely discussed after tho race, and though he was moving backwards when the barrier rose, Master Lupin was actually the last horse away,_ so that there was no' Huke about his victory, though his form showed a considerable improvement on his Cup run. The Haisrison Hack Handicap was only a threo-horso raoe, and the public ruado Jiola a good favourite, though there was plenty of backing for Ararat. Tho trio kept well together till tho six furlongs, where the favourite jumped to the lead, and from this out the race was safe in his koeping. Ararat challenged at the turn, but the ifavourite held his own, and woii comfortably. Rerehau was beaten dff. Tho winner is a half-brother to the jumper Merry Lad. The meeting had an exciting' ending with tho Farewell Handicap. The machine put through nearly iIGOOO, which is a record for a single race on the Wanganui course. Chortle, Avon Pni'k, Mia Cara, Hushman, and Centre were all heavily backed. At the start, Recorder and Centra were fractious,""and tTa'd their chances sjtoilt by losing several lengths. Hushinan was the first away, and he led Avon Park to the half-way, where he was done with, mid ilia Cara went after tho chestnut mare. The pair entered the straight just clear of Centre and Pariform. Tl\o two leaders fought out I a great finish, victory going to Avon Park by a head. Pariform was a length away, and then came Centre and Vladincati. The winner has been most consistent of lato, and has generally won or run second when fancied by her owner. After the race C. Emerson was fined ;ClO for breaking through the barrier.
