LOCAL PENNANT MATCHES. On Saturday afternoon the Pennant matches were resumed, after a month's spell. About starting time rain began to iall, and it was thought that the games would have to be again jxjstpoiied, but after half an hour's drizzle the fall dried up, and excellent conditions prevailed. As the result of Saturday's games, four of the clubs engaged are left in the A grade competition— Wellington, Newtown,- Victoria, and Petone. A!> it is late ,in the season, and the spell of line weather is likely to break at any time, it is understood that the Centre will decide to play the games off between these clubs on the "sudden death" principle, which, if jiecessary, could be accomplished ill'the one afternoon if a reasonably early start were made.
