The attention of the Minister; .of Lands to misleading cablegrams pub-, lished in the New Zealand Press immediately before the Christ-church and Wellington wool sales of this season was recently drawn by Mr. E; Newman, M.P.y on behalf of the Marton Chamber of Commerce. The Prime Minister has now replied as follows"With reference to your letter, of the- Ist instant, enclosing a communication from : the Marton Chamber of Commerce in regard to a cable- message .which ap: psared .in the New Zealand papers on November 16 last, to the effect that there would be no fresh orders placed for military clothing in England during the ensuing si? months, I have the honour to inform you that steps are being taken to trace, if possible, the arigin of the message, with a view to preventing anything in the n&turo of a reappearance of such misleading information at any future time.
