SWIMMING
9 HATAITAI CLUB'S FUNCTION. Somfc hundreds of people lined the foreshore adjoining the Hataitai Swimming Club's bathing-shed in Evans Bay on Saturday afternoon, to witness an interesting programme of swimming races, promoted by the club. Sapper C. i A. Atkinson, of Christchurch (the present Nflir Zealand champion) and other local Bwinimers of note journeyed round to tho icene and contributed to the success of the afternoon with exhibition raoes. Mr. T. Shields was also present, and the spectators were deliglitod with his uatatorial feats. Messrs. F. W. Furkert (president of the club), Messrs. H. Linney (secretary), H. 0. W. Blick (starter), and Captain Skelloy (judge) wero tho officials. Tho races resulted as follow:— Boys, under 13, 25yds.—A. Claridge, 1; J. Williams, 2. Girls, under 13, 25yds.—Yvonne Sinclair and Ngaire Taylor (dead heat), 1; M. HaUiday, 3. Boys, under 17 years, 50yds.—W. D. Edwards, 1; C. Kodgers, 2. Girls, under 17 —Miss Bevan, 1; E. Buckmaster, 2. ' . Single ladies' race—Miss Fear, 1; Miss Rooney, 2. Married ladies' race —Mrs. Linney, 1; 'Mrs. Long, 2. Ladies' diving—Mis6 E. Buckmaster, 1. Boys' diving—P. Edwards, 1. A committee of ladies supplied excellent refreshments.
