Tlio Paris "Matin" correspondent in Germany saw the Kaisor after his illness leaving Berlin for Sofia. Enormous crowds shouted "Hoch der Kaiser!" The Kaiser's hair is white, his face is pale and thin, the features drawn, the eyes dim, his high cheekbones angular and hard. The correspondent bought an official booklet explaining that the Kaiser was not ill, but mentally upset owing to the war. The booklet stated: "It also grieves him tb find kings and princes whom he regarded as. friends have abandoned and turned against him."
