LUCERNE TESTS

With regard to lucorno- tests in the Oamaru district, a Fields Inspector has reported as follows: —"I would like to say that these plots, taken on the whole, havo been a success, for the present drought has given them a thorough test. Since the Department started these plots, quite a number of farmers have put down lucerne, after seeing tho Department's experiments. Recently, on the Awatnoa, the only green spot to be seen for miles was a 10-acre field of lucerne being grazed by sheep on Mr. Porry's farm. I drew the attention of several of the neighbouring farmors to this, some of whom had condemned lucerne as being unsuitable in that locality for dry seasons."
