OUR FIRST SHIP OF MERCY
MAHENO'S .WOKE APPRECIATED. A letter received by Colonel Collins from Sir James 'Porter, Chief Transport . Officer in the Mediterranean, shows that the good work done by the hospital ship Maheno was much appreciated by the liigbcr commands. Following is the text of the letter:—"My Dear Colonel Collins, —I cannot tell you how deeply I regret having to part with the Maheno. Under your able direction she has done splendid service here. I shall ever feel grateful to you and your excellent staff, all so keen, capable, and zealous. They have been most cheery, and 110 difficulty hps been too great to be overcome, no matter how trying the circumstances. I. know of no more .efficient or harmoniously-work-ed ship on the whole of the Sea Hospital Transport Service from her P.M.O. and her captain downwards. With all ray heart I thank you for what you have done for us. Au revoir. Bon voyage. May your Government one day send you back again to us. Believe me, yours very sincerely,—(Signed) J. PORTER." ;
