Mails for Australian States and South Africa, close at Auokland, per Eiverina, on Tuesday, January 4, at 4.15 p.m. The best dispatch for correspondence addressed to the United ■ Kingdom and Continent of Europe will be via San Francisco, closing at Wellington, per Moana, on Thursday, January 6, at 1 p.m. Mails for Australian States close at Bluff, per Wimmera, on Thursday, January 6, at 4 p.m. As correspondence for all neutral countries is subject to censorship it is urged in order to avoid delays that such correspondence be posted in ample time for the mail, the day previous to its dispatch if possible. AH books and sample-packets and newspapers for places within the Dominion must be posted half an hour before tho ordinary letter-mail closes. The parcel-post mail per Main Trunk express closes at the G.P.O. at 11.30 a.m., and for tho south, per ferry steamer, at б.45 p.m. Late letters for mails beyond tho Dominion cannot in future be po6ted on the steamer, but must be posted in the lateletter posting-box at the Chief Post Office up to the appointed time shown on tho mail notice. Parcels for dispatch by steamers and trains with tho exception of the usual ferry steamers for southern offices, closo at the Chief Post Ollice, Wellington, one hour before the advertised time of closing of mails. As the last clearance of the city Teoeivers is made at 5.45 p.m. on Saturdays, all correspondence for tile Sunday night Auckland express must be pooted at the Chief Post Office not later than 8 p.m. on Friday, Deeomber 31, the Carriers' Department (entrance upstairs from Fear therston Street) will be open for the delivery of correspondence addressed to streets in tho city and suburbs from 8 to 9 p.m.; also the public counter for the delivery of correspondence addressed to the Poet Oflice will be open from 8 to 9 p.m. The parcels delivery counter will be open from 8 to 9 p.m. On Saturday, January 1 (Now Year s Dav). tho Postal Department will bo closcd in (ill its branches. Mails for dispatch by steamers will close «t 8 p.m. on the previous evening, and tho only dispatches of correspondence by trains will closo on New Ycar'e Day as follow:—For tlio Wairarapa, Hawko's Bay. Manawatu, Enngitikel. Wangantii, and Tarnnoki districts at 5.45 a.m., and for Auckland and Auckland district at 8 a.m. The city and suburbs receivers will not. he cleared during the dnv, but the midnight clearances will bo made as usual on Sunday, January 2.
