CHRISTMAS AT THE FRONT
GOOD CHEER. ASSURED. The Minister of Defence (the Hon. J. Allen) is particularly anxious that Christmastide shall be a time of good cheer with our soldiers at tho front', whether in the trenches, in or wlierover they may he for the time being located. As a result of communications; the Hon. Mr. Allen yesterday received the following cablegram from Colonel R. Hoaton Rhodes, dated Cairo, December 18:- :
"I have paid a visit to our Military Hospital and Convalescent Homes, Alexandria and .Cairo, and have : conferred with Charters as desired. I cannot suggest anything further for;tho sick and wounded. "• Ample provision has been made for them and for troops in Cairo for Christmas. Army Chaplain Greene left Alexandria last week, together with ' halaneo of 800 other cases [Christmas gifts"!,."
