DISCHARGED PRISONERS SOCIETY
The Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society held a meeting on Monday, under the presidency of His Honour the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout). Considerable discussion took place regarding the incorrigible class of women prisoners, and the chairman urged that the only way of dealing with them was for the Government to establish a Gaol Home, Where' they could be kept and employed, and compulsorily severed from their evil surroundings, Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., and Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., pointed out the danger that arises from the men who keep the women in their criminal and vicious career, and at the same time manage to keep just outside the law;. '.
The committee expressed its thanks and appreciation to all ladies and gentlemen who have so kindly contributed to the funds, of the society; also to the Union Steam Ship Company for concessions on fares, and to the Labour Department for valuable assistance at all. times.
The meeting passed the usual resolution for the Christmas entertainment to the women prisoners in gaol.
