" 4A drama entitled "Leah, the Forsaken," was produced by the pupils of St. Bride's Convent in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening. A portrait of the King .of the Belgians was offered .at auction during an interval in the performance, and realised a 6um of £138 2s. in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. At a speoial meeting of the managers ©f the'Masterton Technical School, held on . Wednesday evening, the following resolution, • proposed by Mr. C. ' E.. Daniell, was carried unanimously:— ; *'The managers of the Masterton Tech-, nical School desire to call the attention of the Minister of Education to the fact that there is, within a short distance of the town of Masterton, land which may be found to be a desirable eits for a farm .school; .further, that the leases of this land expire in June, 1916, and the managers would ask that before this' land is again leased' the Minister should direct his Department to _ report fully on the educational re- • quirements of the district.". An effort is being made to form a 'National Service League in Masterton, to help returning soldiers to regain thqir former positions, and to, make them welcome, both in 'social and civil life. In reference to a, resolution from the Raglan County Council, suggesting that the services of men of military age be dispensed with by local the Masterton County Council has expressed the opinion that, the Government should set the example by discharging such men from its employment. .' ' The Wairarapa Friendly Societies' Executive has '■ decided to ■ hc«d Queen Carnivals in"'aid of the Wounded' Soldiers' Fund in each of the Wairarapa townships. Mr. John Hopkins, who is at present the Napier Mardi Gras, has been-appointed organiser, of the carnivals.'; '■ - :•' -V-
