A CIVIC RECEPTION. . By Telegraph.—Press Aesociatlon. Auckland, November 17 Members of the Presbyterian General Assembly were given a civic welcome b\ tho Mayor to-day. . The leport of tho general treasurer was adopted it stated that in spite or the war the congregational contributions showed an iucrease . The cross revenue now amounts to £157,588, or 15s. sd. per member. The need for careful conservation of resources was emphasised. The Rev. Mr. Homes drew attention to the small increase in membership of 1.7 per cent., also to the- decrease of bJ m tbe new members admitted bv examination. Tho Rev. J. R. Shore considered the small increase in membership was due to the fact that a large number of their young men had enlisted.., Some' Bible classes had lost all their members. The report of tho committee on Sabbath observance stated.that it had been felt that the best.interests of the .work would best be ?8rv«l- by to stimulate the interest and quicken the conscience of the Christian people rather 'than by attempting to take any public action. The Presbytery even more than the Assembly could secure something definite in 'each district.'
