As the result of ail interview between the Mayor and the Minister of Defence, Captain Barclay, officer in charge of the Town Hall Recruiting Office, lias been empowered to deal with the cases of woukl-bo recruits whoso teeth require attention. Tho Defence Department fciving made arrangements wtili the Dental Association, all that Captain Barclay has to do is to direct the men to an official of that association, who distributes the work amongst its members in tl;e City. • Tho committee at the Town Hall recruiting office has occasionally been compelled to let men who had enlisted go back to the country because they wero Tillable to find temporary work for them in town, but this difficulty has also been met. Captain Barclay is now empowered to make provision for employing tho men during the interval between their giving in their names and being called up for active service. There is, therefore, now no reason why a would-be recruit should be returned to tho country with the risk of not being able to find him when he is required to go into camp. Definite regulations have been drawn up, dealing with theso matters, and are now being issued to tho different recruiting centres. The Dental Association is treating all recruits who cannot afford to pay the ordinary rates at hospital rates, which the Government is to pay for.
