The "Evening News" correspondent at Athens says there is disquieting news from Serbia. It is reported that Monastir has been captured and communication with Salonika destroyed. Refugees are pouring into Greece'terror-stricken owing to the advance of tho comitadjis (irregular bands), who are preceding the Bulgarian regulars. The comitadjis commit tho vilest excesses, plundering, murdering, and mutilating civilians. Tho Serbians in the south are being driven to Albania, where the means of provisioning offers difficulties. Further north the attacks east and north are threatening to surround aud cub off the main Serbian forces. THE BULGAR REVERSE AT KRIVOLAK <• ENORMOUS LOSSES INFLICTED BY THE FRENCH. London, November 2. When the Bulgars attacked the i French at Krivolak, the Bulgarians were caught obliquely by gunfire and subjected to a furious bayonet charge. They were thrown on to the right bank of the Vardar, which was swollen, by rains, and many were drowned. An extremely violent Bulgarian attack on Strumuitza was easily repulsed, thanks to the superiority of the French positions. Tho French casualties numbered a thousand; the enemy's were enormous. The Bulgarian ' attacks on the whole French front failed miserably. Other Athens telegrams state that the Bulgarian losses on the Vardar were 25,000 killed and wounded. Their left wing is now threatened by the Anglo-French troops from Krivolak. Bulgarian reinforcements are rushing to oppose them. MONASTIR HAS NOT FALLEN BULGARS ABANDON ATTACK ON KRIVOLAK. (Rec. November 4, 0.25 a.m.), Athens, November 3, Tho reports that Monastir Lad fallen are premature. Tho Bulgarians a-re attempting flanking movements with a view to isolating the Serbians between Veles and Krivolak, and cutting off their retreat towards Albania. The main body of the southern Serbians is falling back on Prilep and Monastir. The Bulgarians have abandoned tho attack on Krivolak, fearing the French artillery, wbic'h is posted on the heights. GERMAN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE.. London, November 2. A Berlin communique states"Wo have captured Cacac, on a branch railway, thirty miles south of Kragujevatz, giving, an oxit from the mountainous country south of Milanovata, and also have captured the heights south of Kragujevatz, 011 both sides of the Morava." THE RUSSIAN BOMBARDMENT OF VARN£ WARSHIPS 'ACCOMPANIED BY, TRANSPORTS* .("Times"- and Sydney, ■"Sum"- Services.). „ London, November 2. A' correspondent with the Russian fleet that has been bombarding Varna says they anchored five miles off the coast. The shore batteries replied to the fire. The Turkish warships Goeben, Breslau, and Hamidieh, lying in port ineffectually fired at the Russians. In many parts of Varna there were conflagrations. Soveral transports conveying troops, also submarines, accompanied the .squadron, which kept outside the mine area. A Bulgarian torpedo boat and submarines helped in the defence of the town. ANOTHER BOMBARDMENT BY THE ALLIES (Eec. November 4, 1,25 a.m.) Rome, November 3. The Allies' have-bombarded Port L agos, Dedeagatch, and Enos. GERMANY'S STRENGTH IN THE SERBIAN OFFENSIVE ONLY 150,000 TROOPS IN THE FIELD. 1 London, November 2.; Router's. Agency has received information from an authoritative source that Germany has only 150,000 troops in the field against Serbia-. The publicity given to German aims is having a disquieting effect in Turkish official quarters. There is growing uneasiness.regarding the possibility of German preponderance at Constantinople. The Germans are conducting a vigorous campaign in Rumania, which is swarming with spies and secret service agents, who are spending money lavishly. The German Ambassador was sketching fortifications. He treated the discovery nonchalantly, and the incident was hushed up.
