PATRIOTISM AND DUTY,
Sir, —The Ilev. Hobert Wood's admirable letter in your issuo of yesterday is singularly refreshing, and : strikes that loftier aim which, I am sure, is shared—in the main—by a great number in this country. In these tremendous days there seem to bo so many, patriots, but such little real patriotism around usl But .with Air. Wood's 4th illustration I venture to differ, for one may well ask what is the use of praying for victory • without effectively training for it! And, if the Sabbath is found to be tho most convenient day on which a, citizen force endeavours to achieve greater efficiency, then by all means let it do so. History does much to remind us that most of the world's great battles have been fought on a Sundav. —I am, etc., CJYH.r. Napier, October 31, 1910.
