NEW DUTIES
COMING INTO FORCE ON MONDAY. The Commissioner of Stamps supplies the following information about the new stamp duties to come into force on Monday next. He refers also to the totalisator tax, which, is not a stamp duty. The principal alterations are a 6 follow:— ' New duty. Receipts 2a. Cheques 2d* Agreements for sale of land and conveyances; for every £50 of consideration 10s. Leases: For every £50 of annual rental. / 3s. Declarations ' Is. 3d. Mortgage: For every £100 . os. Horse-racing stakes..-. X per cent. Totalisator dividend tax •••••■— i 6d. in every pound of dividend For the purpose of assessing the totalisator duty the dividend is the amount paid! into the totalisator on any race after the deduction of 10 per cent. Example • _g Total amount paid into totalisa- _ tor IUUU Less 10 per cent £900 Duty at 63 on £900 equals £22 10s ; amount available for distribution, £8/7 10s. i ■ '•
