(Continued from Pago 2.) A New Zealander in Serbia. Amongst the doctors at present working under the lied Cross in Serbia is Dr. Ada M'Laren, who is a New Zealander, being a daughter of tho lato Mr. T. W. Wilkinson, of Higham, Ghcrtsey (states a southern exchange). Dr. M'iiaren took lier medical degreo at Edinburgh in 1902, and since then has held various public positions. For several years she was medical inspector of schools for the Corporation of Birmingham. In May last sho joined the Berry Relief Unit (London) and went to' Serbia. By last mail letters were received from her from a hospital near iN'ish, where there was stiil a great deal of sickness among the peasantry, an epidemic of diphtheria raging at tho date of writing (August 17). Dr. M'Laren had visited Belgrade, and speaks of the great beauty of the country at tho junction of the Savo and Danube, with tho Austrian town of Semlin in the distance. At date of writing all was peaceful, but momentous decisions wero then being made, and the wildest rumours reached the hospitals, which doubtless are now filled with wounded from the battlefields near at hand.

Williams, jelly; Miss Strachan, soup; Miss Kothenberg magazines; Mrs. W. J. Reid, eggs and biscuits; Mrs. A. Myers, jelly; Mrs. W. Nathan, jelly; Pahiatua, 2o_ dozen eggs; Mrs. Morley, soup; "Union Jack," £L; Miss M. Adams, 2b. 6d. Mrs. W. Behan, who has been spending some time in Napier, left for Auckland on Saturday. Mrs. and Miss Wallace, of Nelson, are visiting Napier.
The lady members and friends of the various sports clubs in Newtown arc invited to meet in the chess room, Newtown Library, on Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock, in order to form committees te assist the Associated Amateur Sports in their effort to provide Christmas gifts for all the soldiers at the Dardanelles and Samoa. Mrs. H. Marks, relic of the late Captain H. Marks, died in Auckland last week at the advanced age of 90 years. The deceased lady landed in Taranaki in. 1842. Came to Auckland when the war broke out there, and has lived there almost continuously ever sinco. Jumble sales are sometimes very useful for disposing of the accretions of furniture, ornaments, jewellery, china, etc., which the years accumulate in many households, and Mrs ; Warren, of Wesley Crescent, who is in charge of the jumble stall at St. Paul's parish bazaar, which is to be held on November 4 and 5, will -be very glad of all ouch contributions for her stall. Tbey may be left at her residence. At Dunedin on* Thursday word was received that Sister M. Jeffrey, who went to Egypt by the Maheno, and was immediately stationed at Port Said, met with a painful accident on September 4. She was sitting in tho dark on me steps of the nurses' home, when a shutter suddenly swung and hit her in tho face, demaging the eye to such an extent that it had to bo removed. Sister Jeffrey made a quick recovery, Mid in a few days was out driving. Nurse Jeffrey was invalided home, and is probably on her way there now.
