GYMNASTIC CARNI VAL

The gymnasium Hall nt the Y.M.C.A. ■was crowded to its utmost capacity last ■evening when, the annual gymnastic carnival was held by the combined classes. It is a great credit to tiie association and to the instructor in particular that with so mauy of their members serving with the Expeditionary Forces they could work up so muck enthusiasm and delight the audienco with such a splendid and varied programme. The events v-cre presented ill <[uick succession, and they passed off without q. hitch. This was duo in a large measure to the capable manner in which the accompaniments were played by Airs. Tracey. , The programme openod with a grawj march by the combined classes. So welj were the various movements carried oul that tho general effect was of a high order. The senior men's class and boys class gave a. good exhibition of dumbbell and other exercises. The various exercises performed by the ladies met with much applause from the audience, for they were carried out with a freedom that added both grace and charm to the movements. A feature of the evening's entertainment was an exhibition on the horizontal bar by the instructor, Mr. M. Tracey. The crowning feature of the ladies' performances was a supoTb exhibition of club swinging. This display was performed with gieat precision, and the general effect was very pretty. Ihe last item on the programme was a series of band-balancing of an extremely intricate nature, and showed the thorough training the class had received. During the course of the evening the chairman, Mr. W. Allan, thanked the audience for their interest and support, and conveyed to Mr. M. Tracey tho sincere thanks of those present for tbe undoubted success which his efforts had attained.
