NATURAL HISTORY NOTES

[% John Castle, Secretary of tlio Wellington Zoological Socicty.] On tlio 16tli (lav of September, tlio fifth year of tho Wellington Zoological Society peacefully terminated. Almost immediately, the Teport of the society, for that year, will be presented, by the council of tho society to tho society's annual meeting, and to the public. Recently, when a meeting of tho council of tho Wellington Zoological Society was lield to consider the annual report of the society, no definite [arrangement could bo made for tho publication of the report. The council wanted to embody it in a new handbook, but feared that, as to publish a handbook containing a guido to tho Zoo can only be done at a great cost, such a publication just now would be too much for tlie society's means. A small committee was appointed, however, to make tho best practicable arrangements. Then so surprisingly _ prompt was the response of the business peoplo of Wellington to our appeal that we resolved to publish a guide to the Zoo, and with it a copy of our report and balance-sheet. Wo felt that, as our troopers have taken a great interest in the Zoo, we could not do better than dedicate our very interesting and instructive pictorial surprise packet to New Zealand's deserving heroes and heroines. Our first Guide to the Zoo has almost run out, and our now, and very much superior 0110, dedicated in a sane, but lofty,' panegyric, to the Heroes and Heroines of New Zealand, will take up tho running before the end of the week. Our young men have honoured the Zoo and the Zoological Society. Poad our unique report, admire tlio pictures in our handbook, and send a copy to a friend "at the front." I am able to report that my society has offered .to liolp to buy a camel or two; and a gentleman has offered mo two snails. Tiie supply of attractions is keeping up.- The snails aro offered. Who will send along a few New Zealand frogs?
