GOOD TIME IN ENGLAND

FOR- WOUNDED NEW ZEALANDERS Private James Walsh, who was invalided to England from Gallipoli, writes cheerfully to his mother in Wellington from the New Zealand Hospital at Walton-on-Thames, as follows: — "Here I am still at Walton, and enjoying myself thoroughly. . . I will try and tell you all the places we have been to lately. Last Sunday (the letter is dated August 29), Mr. J. B. Reid, of Elderslie, took us down to Hampton Court and showed us round the Royal stables. Only, tho horses that are used for tho State coaches aje kept there, and they are beautiful animals. They aro pure white in colour, and are fine big beasts. Only their eyes 6poil them, as they aro of a very light colour, and (ire not much good to them in the daytime, as tho sun dazzles them. Last Friday wo had a three hours' run «r. a steamboat x up the Thames as far as Windsor, and we wero going to liavo a look at tlie Oastle but had to leave it for another time, as wo had to get back to the hospital. Yesterday I motored to Brooklands, and had a' look at the Aerodrome, ami saw a lot of aeroplanes. We also had a look at tho great, motor-racing track, but all racing has now been stopped. Last week Mrs. Riddiford, of Lowor Hutt, took five of us out to lier place to tea. and wo had an enjoyable time. On Wednesday thero ia irn invitation for thirteen of us to go to London, and we aro going to draw lots to see who goes. I hopo I am ouo of tlie lucky ones, as I would like to have a look round tho little City. Tho Hon. T. Mackenmo's son is a''patient hero, and is stone blind, poor chap, but is very cheerful over it. I don't think many of tlio bovs are actually pining to go back to Gallipoli, but I reckon we would all like to have been there when our chaps had that last big smack at the Turks."
