CRICKET
SOLDIERS V. WELLINGTON. Considerable interest is being evinced in tho patriotic representative cricket match, Wellington v. Soldiors (Trentham), to be played on the Basin Reserve this afternoon, commencing at 1 o'clock. His Excellency the Governor and tlio Countess of Liverpool, the Right Hon. W. F. Massey, Sir J. G. Ward, Hon.- Jas. Allen, and his Worship the Mayor, will bo present, also the officers of the Trontham camp. A patriotic speech will bo delivered by Mr. J. P. Firth aud tho Trentliam Band will rendor selections during tno afternoon. Both teams are exceptionally strong, including such well known Now Zealand representative players as 1-lickmott, Sandman, and Bennett, and a keen game is expected. The full proceeds aro to bo devoted towards the fund to provide Christmas gifts for the troops at the Dardanelles and Samoa.
