NATIONAL RESERVE
Oil Tuesday evening the Island EavBerhampore Section (A Company) of the National Reserve, in conjunction with the Wellington South Section, made a route march through tho City. The parade assembled at Colombo Street, Newtown, and marched through tho main thoroughfares as far as Johnston Street, thence to tho Post Office Square, whore a ten-minute halt was called, and back to the Basin Roservo, where tlie South Company broke off to its drill ground. A Company then continued the march right to Island Bay, thus putting up a very creditable performance. The Mission Band led tho march. Major Firth was in command of tho parade, with Major Wells in charge of the Island Bay-Berliampore Company.
RAILWAY SECTION. The Wellington branch of the New Zealand Railway section of tho National Reserve hold an enthusiastic and woll-attended meeting on Thursday. Tlio principal business was the election of officers and n.c.o.'s to fill the vacancios caused by resignations and transfers. Iho results wore as follow Captain, L. Barclay; lieutenants, E. A. Dawson, W. P. Carter, C. It. AVatson; sergeantmajor, A. Coles; sergeants, J. Gordon, T. Bmgiian, W. j. AYesterby. The company has -been granted t'ho use of the railway miniature rifle range, •""'d it is anticipated that the shooting will becomo a strong feature.
PARADE OF MIBAMAB UNIT. Tlie Miramar branch of the Reserve, under Maj.ir Townscnd, paraded at the local Town Hall on Tuesday evening. Thero was a good muster and much useful work was accomplished. During the evening a surprise visit of inspection was made by Major Davis and Captain H. N. M'Leod (District Adjutant), of the Headquarters Staff. After inspection tho men were put through various movements, including rifle exercises and physical drill, by their instructor, Lieut. jVinmio. Major Davis expressed iiis gratification at the manner in which tho work was carried out, and complimented Major .Townscnd upon the efficiency of liis command. After parade Lieut. Nimmo dovoted half an hour to the instruction of the special squad which' is practising for a display of the M'Laglen bayonet fighting system at the coming demonstration on Seatoun Park. PETONE UNIT. About 50 members of the PetonoUnit of tho National Reserve attended last evening's parade, Lieut. Anderson being tho officer commanding. A course of extended order drill, conducted by Ser-geant-Major Stewart, was commenced, in which the men took an activo iiiteresfc. A shooting match against tho Petono Working Men's Club is to bo held on Tuesday next.
