NO MISGIVINGS—IF?
Sir, —In your leading article of today you state tliat Mr. A. M. Myers lias said that \ye need have no misgivings as to tlie result of the war, because we are. prepared to fight to the last man and the last shilling. But are we? You rightly say that to need have 110 misgivings If and If and .If, and, summing up all the other "ifs ; " Jf we mobilise all our resources, spiritual and material, and are prepared to pay the prico of victory to the last farthing. It seems to mo that wo are expecting God to fight for us on our terms, whereas God would have us know that wo shall only win this war on His terms. It is all very well to talk about organising our spiritual resources. What liava our rulers done in tliis direction? What have they, done to abate tho excessive drinking, the love of gambling, the impurity found in the Dominion? It is idlo to talk about being prepared to pay the price of victory to the last farthing. What sacrifices have our leaders of men made? How many of our politicians have followed the example of tho King and Lord Kitclienor and sacrificed their daily glas3? If we win. this war, it will be on God's terms, not on our own, and the best thing we can do is to set ourselves seriously' to try and find out what those terms are, and they are not hard to find. But then the Bible is a tabooed Book in our schools, and an unread book in many, shall we say most, of our homes, even of our politicians,—l am, etc., H. HAROLD ROBJOHNS. Octobar 15, 191 G.
