MR. HISLOP AND PROFESSOR VON ZEDLITZ.

Sir, —Your correspondent, T. W. Hislop, is rather clumsy and unconvincing in his special pleading on the subject of enemy aliens, don't you think? It appears to mo that ail through ho lias contended for a person and not a principle I Otherwise, why were he and his friends not heard of when the alien enemies in the Government and other services were dismissed? I doubt vjery much if these common people received either a. year's or a half-year's salary' as compensation. Also, does he not make rather serious allegations regarding the veracity of some public men, including the Prime Minister? Also, jvill he please remember that abuse is not argument, and that ali pecple are not so fond of publicity as he and some of his friends appear to be. It strikes a casual observer as rather curious when men like your above-named correspondent and Mr. H. Holland; who both pose as something of Socialists, agitate themselves so much over the' highlyconnected, highly-placed, highly-cultured man so capable of managing his own affairs. Their time might be demoted with advantage to the cause of poor old sailors and others of low dogre 3 and lesser attainments, who require all the help they can get. —I am, ctc., D.
