The Legislative Council amended the Licensing Act, providing for hotel hours as from 9 o'clock in the morning to 9 o'clock at night. The Council added an anti-shouting clause, with a penalty oi x £o for treating on licensed premises. ISLAND GUTTER DISAPPEARS. WITH TRADER AND HIS FAMILY ONBOARD. >. Sydney, 'October 14. News from the Islands states that the cutter of R. Corrio, a well-known Gilbert Island trader, with his wife and two children and several natives aboard, has been missing siiice May 23. It is feared they have drifted to sea and perished.
QUEENSLAND BUDCET.
TAXATION FOR PROSPECTIVE DEFICIT.

In the State Assembly, the Treasurer presenting the Budget stated that the revenue for the year was £7,202,658, which was £300,000 above the estimate, while the expenditure totalled £7,199,399, or £298,000 above the estimate. The estimated revenue for the current year was set down at £7,213,756, and the expenditure, including interest and public debts, £7,683,419. The Treasurer referred .to the severe effects of the drought and the dislocation in trade caused by the war. It'vas proposed to meet the shortage in the income by land taxes, which would convert the anticipated deficit to a surplus of £4500. CYCLONE AT BOURKE. DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT THOUSANDS. ' (Rec., October 14, 10 p.m.) Sydney, October 14. _A' cyclone has visited Bourke. Two inches of rain fell in ten minutes, and there was hardly a building in the town that''was not damaged. A large public hall and a number of smaller places were razed, and buildings were unroofed. The damage is assessed at thousands. There were many narrow escapes, and a few minor accidents. ! PRICE OF BREAD COMING DOWN. (Rec. October 14, 10 p.m.) Sydney, October 14. Mr. D. R. Hall, State At-torney-General, foreshadows an early reduction in the price of broad. It is understood that the price will lo reduced by Id. on the 21b, loaf at the end o£ Ootober, and another Jd. next month.
