PROPOSAL TO.SEVER HOSPITAL DISTRICT. Considerable time was occupied at yesterday's meeting of the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board in a discussion upon tho old subject of severance of the' Horowhenua district. The discussiou was opened by Mr. B. R. Gardener, who first of all moved: "That all motions standing on the minute books of the board relating to severance of-the Horowhenua district or part therqof from tho Wellington Hospital district, be rescinded." Practically no opposition was offered to this motion, which was intended to pavft the wsy to Mr. Gardener's moro important proposal: "That tjiis board offers no objection'to the Iproposed severance of the Horowhonua district from the Wellington Hospital district, the Wellington Hospital Board retaining control and administration of the Otaki Sanatorium and the lands supporting it." In speaking to the motion, Mr. Gardener put forward the arguments, wliich had been vigorously urged by him on previous occasions. 1 Mr. H. Freeman seconded the motipn, hut it was soon evident that there was to be strong opposition, and, on being eventually put to the vote, the proposal was negatived by. 8 votes to 6.
