SUBMARINE SHELLS ENGLISH i COAST TOWNS NO MATERIAL DAMAGE By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, August 16. The l'ress Bureau states: A submarine fired several shells on Parton, Harrington, and Whitehaven, between 4.30 and 5.20 this morning. No material damage was dono. A few shells hit the railway embankment north of Parton, the train service being slightly delayed. Fires wero caused at Whitehaven and Harrington, but were soon extinguished. No casualties wore reported. NORWEGIAN STEAMER SUNK. London, August 16. The Norwegian steamer Albis was sunk. Her crew wero landed. TO NULLIFY SUBMARINE TORPEDOES. AN ITALIAN INVENTION.("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.)! London, August 15. An Italian claims to have invented aa apparatus which !3 reputed to be capable of instantaneously nullifying the effect of submarine torpedoes, oausing them to burst before reaching their objective. The invention has been submitted W the Italian naval authorities.
