ABOUT THE FIFTH REINFORCEMENTS. ■ Rumour has been very busy of late to the effect that the Fifth Reinforcements had been virtually wiped -out. So far as anyone in New Zealand can possibly know, the rumour has no foundation in fact. The Prime Minister expressed very strong disapproval •of the folly and wickedness of setting these baseless rumours in circulation. He regarded it as a very serious, matter. Ho had been called up on tho telephone on Sunday at least a dozen times by people anxious to know whether it was truo that the Fifth Reinforcements had been annihilated. News of casualties was bad enouglrt when it conic-s, without exaggerating it beforehand. If the authors of tho rumours could be_ discovered they would b» liable to punishment;, but i). was very difficult to trace theso rumours to'their'Source.
