PHILOSOPHICAL SOCIETY

. A meeting of the technological section of the Philosophical Society was held at tho Museum last niglit. Mr, J. Marchbanks presided. An interesting lecture, entitled "Collection of Hydrographic Data for Engineering Works" was delivered by Mr. F. W. Furkert. The lecturer dealt mainly with the necessity for taking more extensive observations of rainfall and for river ■ gauging. Ho gave tho benefit of 'his experiences abroad on the •subject, and .elaborated on the various instruments in use for rain gauging and river'gauging. Tho lecture evoked an interestine discussion, and on the motion of the chairman, Mr. Furkert was accorded a hoa-rt.y voto of thanks, for, as one of the members stated,- "the first lecture of its kind given in; New Zealand."-
