A HERO'S MEMORY
LATE CAPTAIN FRANDI. In one of tho committee rooms of the Town Hall last evening there assembled a number of friends of the late Captain Frandi, whose gallant death at the Dardanelles has been the sourco of great pride on the part of those who knew him and New Zealanders as a whole. Among those present were the father of tho Lite Captain Fxandi (who fought with Garibaldi) and his sister, Mrs. Corich. The purpose of the gathering was to decide upon some method of perpetuating the memory of tile deceased soldier. , The meeting was presided over by Major A. A. Corrigan, who said that ho had received communications from tho_ late Captain Framli's friends in various parts of tho Dominion expressing the liope that it would bo arranged that all could join in a movement to perpetuate the memory of a man much beloved in military circles and in civil life. Major Simm stated that the D.1.C., in whose service Captain Frandi had been engaged civilly, would be pleased to do a share in the providing of a memorial. ■ _ Captain Hobbs, who had been associated with >the late Captain Frandi in the Zealandia- Rifles, described him as one'of the keenest officers of-tho corps, .'Mr. E. T. Dodderell suggested that, one fitting form the memorial might' take was a cup, which could be competed for annually. Another idea was that a tablet might be placed in the Y.M.C.A.', in recognition of the good woi;k Captain Frandi did for tho boys. ; Mr. E. A. Dawson spoke in terms of great praise of the late Captain Frandi, and said that tho deceased's father-had impressed it upon his family that, if the British flag was worth living under it was worth fighting for. Nearly all the men of that family had enlisted.. Tho following were elected a committee to further the movement Major Have the mixture Teady in a nold biscuit Corrigan (chairman), Major Simm, Captain Hobbs, Captain C. B. Morison, Captain J; Keir, Lieutenant Rankin, Lieutenant Nimmo, Corporal Raymond, Cadet Jeronson, Messrs. E. A. Dawson, E. T. Dodderell (treasurer), W. H. Hind, and Joseph Lewis (secretary). The chairman thought that the movement should be thoroughly public, and that subscriptions should be invited. The committee will meet next Wednesday, and in the meantime subscriptions may be forwarded to the secretary.
