WELLINGTON ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS' SOCIETY
The members of the Wellington 'Accountant Students' Society' met last aiglit in tlio Accountants' Chambers, whon'Mr. 11. A. Gold, Ji\P.A. (N.Z.), occupied tho chair in the unavoidable absenco of tho president. The secretary announced that the joint dobato between tho Christcliureli and Wellington Accountant Students' Societies would bo held this year in Wellington tin 'August 27. and that tho subject of dobato would bo "That it is in tho best intorests i ol' the Dominion that a protective tariff bo enforced against 'foreign imports.". The principal business of the evening was a'lecture dnllvorod by Mr. A. S. Biss, F.I'.A. (N.H.)) entitled "Tho Detection and Prevention of J'Ynud in Accounts." Tho lecturer referred'to the necessity of educating the business community to tho imnorlanoo of a thorough system of internal check. Ho also dealt at some length with the different classes of fraud, and-cited the important incidents and motives connected with frauds in order to omplmsiso the most effective safeguards from an auditor's viewpoint. Tho lecturo, which hold tho members throughout on account of its fascinating nature, wiih strikingly illustrated by casos drawn from tlio lecturer's own exporience, ami ho was accorded a hearty volo of llliiilks for his lccluro.
