SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY

A rare treat was given the sailors in port, last night by Mr. P. M. Denton at the Sailors' Friend Society's Institute. when by the aid of a powerful electric lantern 150 really splendid views of India were shown. The pleasure of the evening' was enhanced by the vivid descriptions given by the lecturer, who has lived many years ill India. The views wero presented to Mr. Denton by an Indian Prince, and they are amongst the finest obtainable. Warm thanks were tendered to Messrs. AVbitelaw and Garrett for the loan and manipulation of the lanterns, and to Mr. Denton by Captain Munn and Mr. Moore, missioner, who said they owed so much to the Wellingtonians for these delightful evenings.
