HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL
THE ROAD CONTROVERSY. At a special meeting of tie Petone Borough Council held on Monday evening, tno Mayor referred to tlie Hutt Road controversy, and detailed what had taken place at a recent deputation to the Minister, and also at last week s conference of local bodies. _ After _ a short discussion, the following motion was agreed to: "That.the council fall in line with the suggestion made by the Mayor of Lower Hutt, _to hold a oonforenoe on Thursday evening next of representatives of all the Hutt \ alley local bodies, including representatives of the Hutt County ridings, and tins Upper Hutt Town Board." Mr. M'Ewan pointed. out that the Hutt Valley was asked to contribute 41.25 per cent, oii the construction aim maintenance costs of the Hutt Road, and was therefore ' entitled to at least equal controlling power to* the City, whose contribution was 38 per cent.
