WOMEN FOR SICK NURSING
CHRISTCHURCH SCHEME • THE MINISTER'S VIEWS M was stated in a Press 'Association telegram on. Saturday that a scheme was being promoted in Christcliurch to i organise bodies of intelligent and competent women to go out to. Egypt and nurse the sick and wounded these, women were to be between tho ages of thirty and fifty, hut preferably between thirty-five to forty years of ago. They would be in charge of a medical practitioner, and a trained registered nurso, both elected for ; high professional qualifications. ./'.-. . The Minister of Defence stated Yesterday that he knew nothing of the above schcme. New Zealand had been asked to send "trained, nurses, and we had sent more than our Bhare. As reKards the wounded returning: to New Zealand, 110 said he did not think they would require much attention' hero, because a largo number would be convalescent, and would go to their homes. The Minister of Public Health had made full arrangements for any others that, had to go into liomos or hospitals. Speaking generally on the subject of nurses, the Minister said that the fifty nurses who wont from hero were sent to. the Dardanelles, and were there now.' Ho was satisfied that there were "enough nurses there now, because the nurses wh'o were, being sent with'the Maliaiio were going to England, where apparently they were more'urgently required by. the authorities. "That,.'at least," said_ tho Minister, "is their present destination."
